Data and method

How mbapredictor works

mbapredictor publishes fees, average packages, cutoff estimates, selection steps and eligibility for 101 Indian MBA and PGDM programmes. Fees and packages come from the college’s own pages and placement reports, and for each one we look for at least two independent sources to check it; every figure we found is listed on the programme page. 82 of the 98 total fees and 86 of the 98 average packages are confirmed by two or more independent websites. Cutoffs are estimates, except where a college disclosed its shortlist data. Chances, pay after the MBA and payback are model estimates, not promises.

Where each figure comes from

Across the 98 full-time programmes we cover, this is how well each fee and package is known today.

How fees and packages are cross-checked

  • For every programme we look for the total fee (tuition and compulsory fees, without hostel) and the average domestic package of the latest placement class.
  • We use the college’s own page or report first, then look for at least two other independent sites. Different websites count as different sources; two pages on one site do not.
  • The college’s own figure is shown when it publishes one. Where only third parties publish a figure, we show it as a corroborated figure when independent sources agree within 10%, and as a single-source figure otherwise.
  • We never average figures that disagree. Conflicting figures are listed so you can see them, and a figure with no defensible source is left blank.

How chances are calculated

  • Each college has a cutoff per exam: the percentile at which an average General-category candidate has about a 50% chance of an interview call. Reserved categories use lower cutoffs at IIMs, IITs and government colleges.
  • Your percentile is adjusted for academics, work experience, gender and stream diversity, and sectional scores. A smooth curve around the cutoff gives the chance of a call.
  • When the cutoff is only an estimate, the curve is widened and we show a likely range, so an estimate never looks falsely precise.
  • The call chance is multiplied by the share of called candidates who get a seat. Safe is 55% or more, Target 25 to 55%, Reach 8 to 25%.

How pay after the MBA and payback are estimated

You can enter your current CTC in the predictor. We then estimate pay after each programme and how fast the fees pay back.

  • Typical outcome is the mean of the college’s average and median package.
  • Experienced students land above the class average: about 6% more per year of experience at colleges that value experience, 4.5% at mixed colleges and 2.5% at fresher-focused ones, up to 6 years.
  • Your current pay sets a floor of about 1.12 to 1.30 times your CTC (higher at top colleges), but never above 1.35 times the college average. A very high current CTC therefore shows as “the typical package is not above your current pay”.
  • The range is 0.8 to 1.25 times the estimate. Payback is the fee plus the salary given up while studying (full-time programmes only) divided by the extra pay a year after the MBA.
FAQ

Common questions

Where does mbapredictor get its data?

Fees, packages, seats, selection and eligibility come from each college’s own website, brochure and placement report. For each fee and package we also look for at least two independent education sites, and every figure found is listed on the programme page with its source and year.

How accurate is the MBA predictor?

Fees and packages are only as good as their sources, which is why the page shows the sources. Cutoffs are estimates of the percentile at which a General-category candidate with an average profile has about a 50% chance of an interview call, except IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta, which use disclosed 2026-28 shortlist data. Chances, pay after the MBA and payback are model estimates, so treat them as a guide for building a list.

Does mbapredictor guarantee admission or a salary?

No. Admission depends on the exam, the interview and many factors we cannot see, and pay depends on your profile and the market. The predictor is for planning and is not affiliated with any institute or exam body.

How is the chance of admission calculated?

For each college and exam we hold the percentile at which an average General-category candidate has about a 50% chance of an interview call. Your percentile, adjusted for academics, work experience, diversity and sectional scores, gives a call chance on a smooth curve that is widened when the cutoff is only an estimate. That is multiplied by the share of called candidates who get a seat.
