XLRI XAT Cutoff: What the Percentile Does Not Decide

MBA One Stop editorial team · Updated 6 November 2026 · 6 min read

In short
  • We hold no XLRI-published percentile cutoff. Figures you see online for the XLRI XAT cutoff are reported or estimated, and they conflict.
  • Per XLRI's pages, the route is XAT 2027, a shortlist by the third week of January 2027, then a personal interview between mid-February and March 2027, then offers and a waitlist.
  • A widely repeated split of 60% XAT, 25% GD and interview, and 15% for other factors is reported. The 2027 prospectus prints no weights, so the split is not tied to an XLRI document.
  • Reports for the business management programme sit roughly between the 94th and 96th percentile. HRM is estimated lower. Treat both as ranges.
  • XAT 2027 is on 3 January 2027 and registration closes on 6 December 2026. The fee is Rs 2,300 plus Rs 200 for each XLRI programme.

The XLRI XAT cutoff is not a number XLRI publishes in the sources we hold, so every figure you read online is reported or estimated, and they disagree. The XAT percentile gets you into the shortlist conversation. It does not by itself decide an offer, because XLRI interviews its shortlisted candidates and the final list weighs more than one input.

Facts about XLRI's process come from its admission pages and the 2027 admission prospectus as checked in November 2026, and XAT dates and fees from the XAT 2027 bulletin. Anything labelled reported or estimated is not an XLRI statement. The prospectus names the selection factors but prints no weights or percentile cutoffs.

How XLRI uses XAT: shortlist, interview, final

XLRI Jamshedpur conducts XAT on behalf of XAMI. For its business management programme (BM), the route on its page is: register through XAT 2027 (or GMAT for NRI, PIO, OCI and foreign candidates), get shortlisted by the third week of January 2027, and attend a personal interview between mid-February and March 2027. The prospectus says the shortlist for the interview in BM and HRM is based only on XAT scores. Offers and a waitlist follow, and the prospectus plans an orientation programme in June 2027. We could not read the dates in XLRI's timeline table, so check it for the offer date.

For the final list in both BM and HRM, the 2027 prospectus says XLRI considers XAT performance, academic background, relevant work experience, performance in the personal interview and/or group discussion, extracurricular activities and other relevant criteria.

Why reported XLRI XAT cutoff figures conflict

Reports for the BM programme sit roughly between the 94th and 96th percentile, and individual pages disagree by a point or two. Several reasons explain this.

  • Different definitions: a call cutoff, a final admitted score and an expected cutoff are not the same number.
  • Forecasts: many pages predict the next cycle rather than report a published figure.
  • Year effects: a percentile moves with each year's paper and with the people who sat it.
  • Category and programme mixes: BM, HRM and category cutoffs get blended.

No source we hold gives an XLRI-published percentile for either programme.

Reported weightages versus the XLRI prospectus

A split often repeated for BM is XAT 60%, GD and interview 25%, and the remaining 15% from essay, academics, work experience and GK. We checked the 2027 prospectus and could not tie it to an XLRI document, so treat it as reported.

Watch out. Weights change between years. Check the 2027 prospectus for the date it was published and the exact components before you plan around any split, including this one.

Programme-wise differences: BM and HRM

  • Both are two-year full-time programmes. Our records list a combined intake of 600 seats for BM and HRM, with no separate split. We could not re-confirm that number on XLRI's pages.
  • BM is the business management programme. HRM is the human resource management programme. The prospectus lists relevant work experience among the final-list factors for both.
  • Placement figures are published for BM and HRM combined, across the Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR campuses. The 2024-26 report shows an average of 31.4 LPA and a median of 29 LPA, so you cannot read a BM-only or HRM-only figure from it.

XLRI's page lists a fee of Rs 15.25 lakh per annum for BM and HRM, about Rs 30.5 lakh over two years, subject to revision, with hostel and mess charged extra.

Our model treats the HRM cutoff as lower than BM, but that is an estimate, not an XLRI statement. See BM and HRM for the programme pages.

What a non-top-percentile applicant can still change

You cannot change your XAT score after the exam. You can change the rest of the file.

  • Interview: prepare for it as a separate stage. A shortlist only gets you to the room.
  • Work experience and academics: the prospectus lists both among the final-list factors. State yours clearly.
  • GK: XAT's overview describes a separate 10-minute part with no negative marking and says its scores are used exclusively by XLRI for its final selection. The overview we could read is titled XAT 2026, so check the 2027 pattern. If XLRI is your target, prepare for it.
  • Application choices: apply to the programme that fits your profile, not only the one with the higher reported cutoff.

Other colleges that take XAT

The XAT bulletin says over 250 institutes recognise the score. In our college data, XIM Bhubaneswar, MICA, IMT Ghaziabad, TAPMI, FORE School of Management and K J Somaiya list XAT 2027 or XAT among accepted exams. Each has its own process, and MICA also needs its own MICAT test.

The XAT college predictor lists which colleges fall in range at a given percentile. For a General-category candidate with 70% in graduation and no work experience, it shows both XLRI programmes as long shots at the 90th percentile. That is a model estimate with a range, not an XLRI statement.

How to read last year's XLRI XAT cutoff numbers

  1. Ask what the number is: call cutoff, final admitted score or a forecast.
  2. Check the year, the programme and the category.
  3. Treat it as a range, not a threshold. Percentiles move with each paper.
  4. Compare at least two independent reports, and treat agreement as weak evidence, since many pages copy each other.
  5. Look for the XLRI document. If there is none, say 'reported' in your own notes.
Tip. A percentile is relative, so a 2026 figure from a different paper cannot be applied to the 2027 exam without a margin.

Checklist for XAT 2027 applicants

  • Register by 6 December 2026. XAT is on 3 January 2027, 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
  • The fee is Rs 2,300, plus Rs 200 for each XLRI programme. Check the total at checkout.
  • Final-year students can apply if the final exams end by 11 June 2027. The sources checked state no minimum graduation percentage.
  • Read the XLRI 2027 prospectus for weights and the stages for your programme.
  • Plan a second route: other colleges accept XAT, and CAT 2026 is on 29 November, though its registration is closed.
FAQ

Common questions

What XAT percentile is needed for XLRI?

XLRI does not publish a percentile cutoff in the sources we hold. Reports for the business management programme sit roughly between the 94th and 96th percentile, and HRM is estimated lower. Treat them as ranges, and check XLRI's prospectus for the official position.

Does XLRI have a sectional cutoff?

XLRI's 2027 prospectus and XAT bulletin publish no sectional or overall percentile cutoff. The prospectus says applicants to the BM international specialisation must meet the same cutoffs as BM, so cutoffs exist but are not printed. Do not rely on a sectional figure from a blog that does not cite an XLRI document.

Is GD part of XLRI selection?

XLRI's 2027 prospectus lists 'performance in the personal interview and/or group discussion' among the final-list inputs, and its BM international specialisation section refers to a GD/PI process and WAT. The format can change between cycles, so check your call letter. Prepare for both a GD and an interview to be safe.

What is the XAT fee for XLRI?

The XAT 2027 fee is Rs 2,300, plus Rs 200 for each XLRI programme you add. NRI, foreign, PIO and OCI applicants applying through GMAT pay Rs 5,000. Registration closes on 6 December 2026, so confirm the total at checkout before you pay.

Can I get XLRI with a 90 percentile?

No official cutoff is in our files, so no one can promise it. Reported cutoffs for BM sit above 90, and our predictor model shows both programmes as long shots at 90 for an average profile. Other parts of your profile count, so use the predictor for a range.
