MBA One Stop editorial team · Updated 6 November 2026 · 6 min read

In short
  • SIBM Pune admits through SNAP and NMIMS Mumbai through NMAT. As of 6 November 2026, NMIMS's application window for the 2027 batch (20 August to 10 October) has closed, while SNAP registration runs to 25 November.
  • SIBM Pune's Rs 26.2 lakh (2026-28) is the academic fee only. NMIMS Mumbai's Rs 27 lakh is two years at the 2026-27 rate of Rs 13.5 lakh, and the second-year fee comes in the offer letter.
  • 2024-26 packages: SIBM Pune averaged Rs 28.18 lakh with a median of Rs 27 lakh. NMIMS Mumbai's MBA Core averaged Rs 24.6 lakh, with no median published.
  • SNAP is 60 questions in 60 minutes with up to three tests and the best score used. NMAT is adaptive, 108 questions in 120 minutes, with no negative marking.

SIBM Pune vs NMIMS Mumbai is first an exam-route decision. SIBM Pune admits through SNAP and NMIMS Mumbai through NMAT by GMAC, and on 6 November 2026 only one of those routes is still open to new applicants for the 2027 batch.

This post compares the two routes, then the fee, package and selection stages of each campus, with batch years beside every figure.

What is SNAP like?

SNAP has no sectional time limit, and you can attempt sections in any order. Ethics, Morality and Values is 10 of the 60 questions. SNAP is used by Symbiosis institutes only, 17 institutes and 32 MBA programmes, and each programme needs its own registration fee.

The bulletin's wording on normalisation across tests is ambiguous, so treat your result as one best-score percentile. Registration and payment close on 25 November 2026, and the result is due on 12 January 2027.

What is NMAT like, and what is the retake question?

NMAT adapts to your answers. Each section scores 12 to 120, sections are timed separately, and you cannot return to a finished one. The exam window runs from 2 November to 20 December 2026 for candidates who registered by 10 October.

You can send your score to up to five schools at no extra cost. NMIMS's handout, as we hold it, does not say whether it uses your best or your latest attempt, so confirm that before you plan retakes. The NMAT guide covers the pattern.

How do the other campuses compare?

CampusExamFee (2026-28)Average / median (Rs lakh)Batch
SCMHRD PuneSNAPRs 25.82 lakh in our table21.47 / 202023-25
SIBM BengaluruSNAPRs 21.4 lakh, academic fee14.53 / 142023-25
NMIMS BengaluruNMATRs 22 lakh13.5 / 122024-26

SCMHRD's sheet shows tuition per annum and collects it in four instalments, so confirm the total on its page. SIBM Bengaluru's hostel is Rs 1,79,700 and its mess Rs 1,19,600 a year, on top of the fee. SCMHRD's latest report is for 2023-25. Averages here are well below SIBM Pune's and NMIMS Mumbai's, so average-to-fee ratios fall to 0.83 for SCMHRD, 0.68 for SIBM Bengaluru and 0.61 for NMIMS Bengaluru.

How do the selection stages differ?

  • SIBM Pune: a graduate with at least 50% (45% for SC, ST), final-year students allowed. SNAP shortlisting, then an online group exercise and personal interview, then a merit list.
  • NMIMS Mumbai: any bachelor's degree with at least 50%, final-year allowed. Shortlisting on NMAT sectional and total scores, then a competency test and/or personal interview. Work experience above one year is given weightage, and 30% of seats go to women. Weights are not published.
  • Weights elsewhere: SIBM Bengaluru publishes SNAP 50, group exercise 10 and interview 40. Check SIBM Pune's own page for its weights.

Both ask for a group exercise or interview. NMIMS's handout names a competency test and a personal interview, not a group discussion.

Which route suits a 90-percentile profile?

We do not state SNAP or NMAT percentile cutoffs for these schools. Use the SNAP college predictor for estimates. The grid below is about route, not score.

FAQ

Common questions

Which is better: SIBM or NMIMS?

On the numbers here, SIBM Pune reports the higher average package (Rs 28.18 lakh against Rs 24.6 lakh for 2024-26) and a lower stated fee (Rs 26.2 lakh academic only, against Rs 27 lakh). NIRF 2025 ranks SIBM 11th and NMIMS 24th. Mumbai location and the exam route may matter more to you.

Should I take SNAP or NMAT?

It depends on the schools you want and the calendar. SNAP leads to Symbiosis programmes and registration is open to 25 November 2026. NMAT leads to NMIMS, whose 2027 application window closed in October. NMAT has no negative marking and allows three attempts a year.

Is NMIMS Mumbai worth 27 lakh?

Rs 27 lakh is two years at the 2026-27 rate, and the second-year fee is set in the offer letter. The average package for 2024-26 was Rs 24.6 lakh, below the total fee, and no median is published. Hostel and living costs come on top. Compare with your loan and target role.

Can I apply to both?

Yes in principle, since the exams and processes are separate, and you pay separate fees for each. In practice NMIMS Mumbai's application window for the 2027 batch closed in October 2026, so a new applicant can only use SNAP now. Check NMIMS's own page for any extension.

Do both have GD?

SIBM Pune uses an online group exercise and personal interview after SNAP shortlisting, starting 3 February 2027. NMIMS's handout names a competency test and/or personal interview and does not list a group discussion. Formats can change between cycles, so read the current admissions page.
